The provision of single-Sex services
Our priority is to meet the needs of women and children survivors to have a safe space where they can heal and be able to rebuild their lives. Many women and children who have been subject to male violence and abuse feel safer in single sex spaces and services which reduces their distress and trauma. We therefore support the principle of providing single sex domestic abuse services which is lawful under the Equality Act 2010.
What the law states: Under the Equality Act, you must not discriminate against someone because of the protected characteristics of sex or gender reassignment. However, the Act includes ‘exceptions’ which allow organisations lawfully to exclude, modify, or limit access to certain groups in certain circumstances.
