Gender Justice & Intersectional Practice Conference 2025

Our second conference brought together survivors, academics, and community organisations to explore the critical issue of gender-based violence affecting women of African and Caribbean descent in the UK. The event created a powerful space for dialogue, learning and shared experiences, highlighting the importance of adopting an intersectional approach when addressing, understanding, and advocating for women.

Through meaningful discussions and collaboration, the conference emphasised the need to recognise how race, culture, and lived experiences shape women’s encounters with violence and access to support.

As a result of this conference, we hope to see:

  • Increased action in addressing gender-based violence in the UK through an intersectional lens
  • Greater collaboration and understanding of the diverse ways women experience violence
  • More conversation and initiatives focused on providing trauma-informed and culturally competent support for Black and minoritised women in the UK”
